CIO Panel to Tackle Distribution, Analytics at HITS Conference

There’s a full slate of panels and keynotes on tap to keep Hollywood’s IT crowd fully engaged at the May 25 “Holly-wired: Where IT and Entertainment Meet” event in Los Angeles.

But for Devendra Mishra, executive director of the Hollywood IT Society (HITS) and conference chair of the event, it’s the first panel — “CIOs: IT as the Enabler of the Enterprise for Profitability, Collaboration & Transformation” — that may prove the most informative.

“The HITS conference of 2016 is a major milestone which demonstrates the successful efforts of the CIOs of the entertainment industry to enable greater profitability, collaboration and transformation in the wake of wide-ranging technologies,” he said. “Investments have been made in technology and systems to enhance content production, distribution and marketing to fulfill consumer demands across the globe in the digital age.”

Following Mishra’s welcoming remarks to start the day, John Mooney, executive director of the Institute of Entertainment, Media & Culture and associate professor at Pepperdine University, will dive right in with the CIOs from Hollywood’s biggest studios, tackling how technology has changed the game for content creators and distributors, making a global marketplace seem almost small.

John Herbert, EVP and CIO of 20th Century Fox, Steve Lapinski, CIO of film and West Coast TV for NBCUniversal, Theresa Miller, EVP and CIO for Lionsgate and Scott Phelan, SVP for Warner Bros. Technology Solutions are currently on tap to share their initiatives that center around data analytics, and the long-term investments being made in new technologies and new systems.

That first panel will set the tone for a full day of experts speaking to the challenges of building personal connection with consumers, globalizing the delivery of localized content, solving cyber warfare, tackling the mobile video revolution, and the emergence of VR and AR.

“Since the inception of HITS five years ago, this confluence of speakers, subjects and technology showcases may be the most remarkable event for the continued progress of M&E,” Mishra said.
