Vice President, Advanced Production Technology
Warner Bros.

Sean Cooney serves as Vice President, Advanced Production Technology, Warner Bros., a position to which he was named in January 2010. In this role, Cooney is responsible for identifying initiatives to streamline and improve efficiencies across the Studio’s production and post production chains, with the goal of establishing and supporting next-generation production pipelines.

Prior to his current post, Cooney was Vice President of Feature Post Production for Miramax Films, based on the East Coast. From 2006-2010, he oversaw all aspects of post production on feature films such as “Adventureland,” starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart; “The Queen,” with Helen Mirren in an Academy Award-winning role; “Doubt,” featuring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman; “Diving Bell & the Butterfly” directed by Julian Schnabel; “Everybody’s Fine,” starring Robert DeNiro; and “The Debt” with Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington. In this role, Cooney was integrally involved with Miramax’s productions from early budgeting and planning phases through production implementation on locations—from Budapest and Tel Aviv, to London and New York—to final distribution via parent company Walt Disney Studios.

From 2003-2006, Cooney was Manager, Distribution and Operations for Showtime Networks, where he oversaw post production delivery and worldwide servicing of over 100 television shows and movies. He was also instrumental in moving the Network’s archives toward a digital platform and facilitated some of the earliest digital deliveries to iTunes and Netflix.

Before Showtime, he worked at the independent film studio of Roger and Julie Corman, which was known as a launching ground for new talent—including Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese and James Cameron. The company produced 25-30 films per year and managed a library of 400 titles that were actively distributed worldwide. As Director of Development, Cooney optioned and developed manuscripts and screenplays as well as structured finance and talent deals for the studio. As Production Manager and Post Production Supervisor, he negotiated hundreds of deals on productions across Los Angeles, India, the Philippines and Egypt. He also advised on overall strategy for post production operations and film library archives.

Prior to joining the Cormans’ studio, Cooney worked as a freelance production manager and assistant director in Los Angeles as well as an editor and producer of commercials, independent features and short films in San Francisco.

In September, 2012, Cooney was named one of the “Hollywood 50” by the Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG) highlighting global Irish-American executives making a significant impact within their field of technology.

An entertainment professional with more than 18 years of experience in the industry, Cooney holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters of Fine Arts in Film & Television from the University of California, Los Angeles.
